Ah, 2001: When people were loving “Hanging by a Moment” by Lifehouse, The West Wing was the best drama on TV, and Harry Potter blazed a (lightning-shaped) trail through our hearts on the big screen. The same year, a Santa Barbara Lighting store called Tri-County Lighting spawned ideas in some young go-getters, and they pushed hard to launch an online lighting store (1StopLighting.com). As much as five years later, the freshly incorporated company was running full steam out of one of the owner’s living room. Focusing on a wide selection and a customer-first attitude rocketed the company to strong growth, which has now culminated in Patio Heat and Shade.

Since the early days, we’ve been blessed to watch our work family grow both in size and abilities. We treasure promoting from within, and work with every employee to help them grow and attain new positions within the company. This person-first mindset is pervasive here, where even in the Pandemic-driven hybrid work environment of today we still find ways to celebrate everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, and achievements with fun get-togethers.

Some companies would take your call asking for a 6,000 watt heater and write up the order; we want to understand your need (if your need is a small 4-person patio dining area, a 6,000 watt heater is overkill). We don’t want to sell you something, we want to sell you the right thing. We continue our fight for doing what’s right by partnering with our manufacturers to run special charity sales, and have returned over half a million dollars to some of our favorite charitable organizations.
